EUGENE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team swept Northwest Christian University on the road Friday, 3-0.
Eastern Oregon (11-7, 7-5 CCC) was led by
Irene Walters' hitting .412 with eight kills up against just one error. She added nine digs and a match-high five blocks.
Jessica Lea, who hit .304 on the night, gathered eight kills, eleven assists, and eleven digs. She also tied for the match-high with three aces, along with
Emily Sampson. Sampson had 15 assists and seven digs for the Mountaineers.
With seven matches remaining in the regular season, freshman Setter Cori Wallace has broken NCU's single-season assist record after a 25-assist night on Friday. The Beacons dropped the match to Eastern Oregon, 25-15, 25-18, 25-20. Wallace tops a two-year old record (555) held by Whitney Hoff and now sits at 570 on the year, averaging just over eight assists per set.
The Beacons (5-15, 1-11 CCC) were out-hit by the Mountaineers in the match .253 to .083 as the efficient Eastern Oregon offense collected 33 kills and five blocks. NCU was led on offense by Cassie Bishop, who returned to action after battling back from a concussion, with a match-high 12 kills. Janel Fetters added seven kills and two blocks and Danielle Nance collected five kills, and a pair of service aces. Wallace was one dig away from another double-double, totaling nine digs to go with her 25 assists. Bridget Marasigan led the Beacons with 12 digs.
Eastern Oregon travels to Salem for a match at Corban University Saturday. EOU swept the Warriors (7-7, 5-7 CCC) earlier this season in La Grande.
