OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team swept The Evergreen State College on the road Friday night, 3-0.
The Mountaineers (9-5) (5-3) were led by
Jessica Lea's 27 assist, nine dig, and seven kill performance.
Taylor Stewart and
Irene Walters each had match-highs of 10 kills, and Stewart added 11 digs.
Kaitlyn Duncan finished with a match-high 14 digs.
“I thought we came out and played a good match,” EOU head coach
Hailey Pearce said. “Evergreen is a tough team. They played hard the entire match and gave us nothing easy. I'm pleased with our effort and ready to take on Northwest tomorrow.”
Eastern won the first set, 25-22, and never surrendered the lead, but the margin never grew larger than five points. The second game featured seven ties and four lead changes. The Mountaineers jumped out to a 9-2 lead, but the Geoducks evened the game at 14. EOU went on to win the set, 26-24. Eastern pulled away from TESC in Game 3, thanks to a 13-3 run in the middle of the set. The Mountaineers won the set, 25-13.
Caitlin Swift led Evergreen (3-9) (2-6) with eight kills. Erin Mitchell had a team-high 15 assists, and Chantal Petkus finished with 15 digs. Jassmin Garcia and Tori Foss each had 10 digs for the Geoducks.
Eastern will travel to Kirkland, Wash. for a match at Northwest University Saturday at 7 p.m. Evergreen State hosts The College of Idaho at 7 p.m. Saturday.
