This time last season, the Concordia University women's basketball team was ranked No. 15 in the country with an overall record of 18-2, and second place conference record of 11-1.
Flash-forward a year and one of the Cascade Collegiate Conference preseason favorites is 10-10 overall, sixth in the league standings under .500, and hoping for a home conference playoff game.
The Cavaliers finished last season four points from the national quarterfinals as conference champions. Concordia was 29-4 and all four losses were within nine points or less. CU returned two starters and six of its 13 letter winners from that run.
Concordia swept Eastern Oregon for the first time in seven years last season. The Mountaineers hold a 38-18 all-time advantage over CU. EOU has won seven of the 10 meetings in La Grande versus the Cavaliers since 2000.
Eastern won 16 straight over Concordia from 1991 to 1999, and from 2003 to 2007, EOU won 10 consecutive meetings. The last match-up in La Grande ended a six-game Mountaineer win streak at Quinn Coliseum. Only seven Eastern Oregon players, five on the current roster, got into the 60-53 Cavalier victory. Concordia entered the game No. 17 in the country. EOU led at halftime, 34-29, before being outscored 31-19 in the second half.
Eastern cruised to a 63-51 victory over No. 24 Concordia earlier this season on Dec. 30, 2009. The Mountaineers held the Cavaliers to 18 percent shooting from behind the arc. Concordia was led by Danielle Clauson's 14 points. The Mountaineers were led by 19 points and 10 rebounds from

The Concordia University men's basketball team began this season 9-0 after being picked to finish ninth in the conference preseason poll. Just over halfway through the conference schedule, the Cavaliers are sixth in the conference.
Eastern Oregon shot a season-high 57 percent from the field in a 94-73 win at Concordia on Dec. 30, 2009. CU entered the game averaging a conference high 91 points per game. The Mountaineers'
Jordan Gregg finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Jourdan Sweeney led all scorers with 19 points to lead Concordia. Eastern led 55-25 at the half, and had its largest lead of 32 points early in the second half.
The all-time series between the two programs is very close with Eastern holding a 25-23 advantage. The Mountaineers have won seven out of the 10 meetings in Quinn Coliseum since 2000, and 10 out of the 19 overall games.
EOU's
Josh Landsverk and Gregg combined for 28 points the last time Concordia came to Eastern. The Mountaineers shot 50 percent from the field and 43 percent from behind the perimeter in the 84-69 victory last season. Gage Aker led the Cav's with 12 points and four assists.
Saturday is Public Services and Public Safety night in Quinn Coliseum. Island City Wal-Mart is also sponsoring the doubleheader. The women's game tips off at 5:30 p.m. and the men's follows at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be video streamed on EOUSports.com, and live stats are also available.
