PORTLAND -- The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team defeated Warner Pacific on the road in three games, 27-25, 25-16, 25-13.
"Tonight was an excellent win for us to build on," EOU head coach Kaki Morehead said. "Warner Pacific is a good team and I'm glad we didn't have a hangover from the Concordia loss."
The Mountaineers had a rough start in the match and were forced to extra points in Game 1. Eastern led 17-11 before the Knights went on a 10-3 and took the lead. Both teams went back and forth from there until EOU won the game.
Both teams battled close to begin Game 2 with the score tied 8-8. Eastern Oregon then went on a 11-2 run and that was the turn of the match. The Mountaineers cruised to win the second game, 25-16.
EOU eased past WPC in the third game with the score never being close. Eastern had its largest lead at 12 three times during the end of the third game. The Mountaineers won Game 3, 25-13.
Eastern had 38 kills compared to Warner Pacific's 23. Grace Deboodt led EOU with a game-high 13 kills. Jessica Lea added 10 kills for the Mountaineers. Lea also chipped in 12 assists. Eastern Oregon's Chelsea Herron had a game-high 20 assists. Kaitlyn Duncan had a game-high 15 digs to lead EOU.
The Mountaineers return home to host The College of Idaho Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. in Quinn Coliseum.
