The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team dropped their final match at the APU Cougar Classic to the host and nationally ranked No. 4 Azusa Pacific University, 3-1.
After losing the first game 23-25, the Mountaineers were able to bounce back and grab Game 2, winning 25-21 before falling in the third and fourth games 19-25, 17-25.
"This morning was disappointing and we learned from it positively," head coach Kaki McLean said. "This afternoon was much more like us and we played to our potential. Azusa is a strong team and it was a fun match for us."
Senior Grace Deboodt led the team with 15 kills and 20 digs. Jessica Lea had 23 assists and 11 digs, while teammates Emily Sampson had 18 assists, Kaitlyn Duncan 14 digs, and Haley McEnroe 14 digs and eight kills.
Eastern finishes their preseason schedule on the road Sept. 1 in Spokane Wash. against Spokane Falls Community College at 2 p.m. and Whitworth University at 6 p.m. EOU opens Cascade Conference play Sept. 4 at Corban College.
