Warner Pacific Pulls Away From EOU

No. 9 Knights win Top 25 battle with Eastern

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The No. 21 Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team could not pull off an upset over No. 9 Warner Pacific on the road Thursday, 88-80.

The Mountaineers led at halftime by four points and in early in the second half before the Knights made a 13-0 run, and stretched it to a 25-5 run over a nine minute period. WPC then had its largest lead of 15 points at the 8:23 mark in the second half.

Eastern Oregon closed the gap to six points four times in the final 5:30 minutes, but could get no closer. Warner Pacific won its seventh straight game, while Eastern ended its three game win streak. The Knights now sit atop the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.

Eastern's Jordan Gregg led all scorers with 22 points and had a game-high 11 rebounds. The senior made 11 of his 16 shots from the field. Dan Stafford finished with 16 points on 5 of 8 shooting from behind the perimeter. Josh Landsverk added 10 points for the Mountaineers.

The Knights had six players finish in double figures.Webster Moreland had a team-high 17 points off of the bench. Jake Glisson had 16 points, Marcel Smith finished with 14 points, and Kaylone Riley chipped in 13 points. Reggie Guyton and Stephen Harris had 11 and 10 points respectively.

Warner Pacific shot 56 percent from the field, compared to Eastern's 42 percent. The Mountaineers made 11 of their 29 three-point attempts.

Eastern will host rival The College of Idaho in the first battle for the I-84 Cup, Friday, Jan. 8, in La Grande.
