Eastern Men Capture Tournament Title

EOU routs Lewis-Clark State on the road

LEWISTON, Idaho -- The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team had little trouble defeating Lewis-Clark State College Saturday night, 73-47.

Eastern Oregon's Jordan Gregg (Lewiston, Idaho) was named the Cannon's Building Materials Tournament MVP after finishing with 23 points and 29 rebounds in a pair of Mountaineer victories over the weekend. The senior had a game-high 16 rebounds and added 11 points Saturday.

The Mountaineers' Dan Stafford (Auburn, Wash.) finished with a game-high 20 points against the host Warriors. The senior shot 6 for 8 from the field, including 4 for 5 from behind the perimeter. EOU shot 11 for 24 from behind the arc, and 39 percent from the field.

Josh Cottle (Heber City, Utah) added seven assists for Eastern. Thomas McCarthy (Prineville, Ore.) scored 12 points for EOU, shooting 4 for 10 from behind the perimeter. Josh Landsverk (Spokane, Wash.) scored nine points for the Mountaineers. Landsverk was named to the All-Tournament team.

LCSC trailed 30-22 at halftime, but made an 8-0 run early in the second half that cut the lead to 38-36. Eastern then went on a 14-2 run to stretch the lead. The Mountaineers held the Warriors to 1 for 9 from the field in the final 7:27 of regulation.

T. Wallace led the Warriors with 13 points. Lewis-Clark State shot 31 percent from the field and made just 3 of its 11 three-point attempts.

The Mountaineers open the Cascade Collegiate Conference schedule Friday at The Evergreen State College. The No. 22 Geoducks fell to Montana State-Northern in the third game of the tournament, which was prior to the EOU and LCSC game.
