Gina Soto joined the Mountaineer women’s soccer team in 2015 as a graduate assistant after a successful playing career at the NCAA Division I level.
Prior to her coaching career, Soto was a four-year starter and a standout midfielder/defender on the women’s soccer team at the University of Texas at El Paso. During her freshman campaign, Soto tallied 11 starts in 18 games, and she went on to score in the game-winner in 2-1 upset over then-ranked No. 25 Memphis.
As a sophomore at UTEP, Soto helped her squad to the championship of the Conference USA Tournament, and she went on to start in all matches throughout her senior campaign. A hard worker off the field, Soto earned academic all-conference honors each of her four seasons at UTEP.
After wrapping up her collegiate career, Soto became the strength and conditioning coach at UTEP for the softball, soccer, and cheerleading teams, and she even began competing in powerlifting competitions. Soto was also an instructor for numerous UTEP soccer camps.
A native of Provo, Utah, Soto enjoys spending time outside, powerlifting, and skiing.
“We're excited to have such a passionate and experienced soccer mentor such as Gina join our Mountaineer soccer family as a member of our staff,” said head coach Justin Wagar. “She was an exceptional player, knowledgeable, and committed to excellence. Her talents and skills will be a welcome addition to our team in coming years. We're looking forward to her contributions to the squad.”
