McCoy Nets Five as Mountaineers Fall to Whitman

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Women's Lacrosse dropped an 18-5 decision to Whitman College Wednesday evening in Community Stadium. Whitman used a dominant first half and a seven-goal performance from Sarah Hawkins to secure the victory for the Blues.

Whitman wasted little time taking control of the game. Hawkins opened the scoring with 11:01 left in the first quarter and the Blues quickly added five more goals in the period to take a 6–0 lead after one quarter.

The Blues continued to extend their advantage in the second quarter. A goal by Lola McConaghy pushed the lead to 7–0 before Eastern Oregon got on the board five minutes into the quarter. Jade McCoy scored on a free-position shot, but Whitman quickly answered with four more goals to take an 11–1 lead into halftime.

Eastern Oregon showed more offensive rhythm in the third quarter as McCoy scored three times in the frame. However, Whitman kept pace offensively, adding five goals in the quarter to stretch the lead to 16–4 heading into the final period.

Whitman added two more goals in the fourth quarter while McCoy recorded the Mountaineers' final goal with 7:46 remaining, assisted by Gemma Gonzales, to make the score 17–5 before Whitman closed out the game at 18–5.

McCoy led Eastern Oregon with five goals on eight shots and seven shots on goal. Gonzales added an assist and controlled a team-high 13 draw controls. Goalkeeper Maddie Wicks finished with eight saves in net for the Mountaineers.

Whitman was paced by Hawkins' seven goals and two assists, while Labhart, McConaghy, Emily Odegaard and Ellie Milesi each added multiple goals.

Eastern Oregon returns to action March 14 when the Mountaineers host Whitworth University in Community Stadium, honoring their three seniors in a pregame ceremony.
