NEWBERG, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's lacrosse team battled on the road Saturday afternoon but fell to George Fox University, 23–1, at Austin Sports Complex.
George Fox came out fast, scoring nine first-quarter goals and adding seven more in the second to take a 16–0 lead into halftime. The Mountaineers struggled to slow the Bruins' transition offense early, as turnovers and draw losses allowed the home side to control possession for much of the opening half.
Eastern Oregon found a breakthrough in the third quarter when
Jade McCoy scored unassisted for the Mounties' lone goal, cutting the deficit to 17–1. Despite improved defensive pressure after the break, George Fox continued to capitalize on extra possessions and extended the lead through the fourth.
The Mountaineers recorded six shots with five on goal while forcing multiple second-half stops from the defense. In goal,
Maddie Wicks played the full 60 minutes and tallied 10 saves while also collecting five ground balls to anchor the defensive effort. Eastern Oregon finished with 14 ground balls and nine draw controls, led by
Natanya Reed with four draws and
Gemma Gonzales adding key defensive plays.
Eastern Oregon returns to action Friday, Feb. 27, traveling to Tacoma, Wash. to face Pacific Lutheran University. The opening draw is scheduled for 5 p.m.
