COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Eastern Oregon (RV) Men's basketball opened the second half of conference play on Friday afternoon, rolling past Walla Walla University 96–72 behind a scorching shooting performance and a dominant defensive effort.
Though the Wolves struck first, the Mounties quickly set the tone for a dominant matchup. After trading baskets early, EOU's ability to shoot from deep created an advantage that remained consistent throughout the game. Each time the Wolves chipped away, the Mounties responded with another push, never relinquishing control. Eastern Oregon was lethal from beyond the arc in the opening half, knocking down 10-of-20 three-pointers. By halftime, efficient 53.3% shooting and capitalizing on Wolves miscues—turning six WWU turnovers into nine points—gave the Mounties a 42–34 lead.
Eastern Oregon came out of the locker room even sharper. The Mounties poured in 54 second-half points, shooting an impressive 65.7% (23-for-35) from the floor. Their defense locked down the Wolves, holding WWU scoreless from three-point range in the half, while EOU connected on eight more triples.
Rebounding and defense proved to be decisive factors, as Eastern Oregon doubled Walla Walla on the boards, collecting the majority on the defensive end to limit second-chance opportunities. The Mounties also controlled the paint, scoring 24 points inside in the second half.
Overall, Eastern Oregon shot a spectacular 60% from the field and 18-for-35 from three-point range, while holding the Wolves to 45.2% shooting. Despite not attempting a single free throw, EOU's efficiency and ball movement kept the game firmly in hand.
Eamon Monahan led all scorers with 24 points, shooting 81.8% from the field and drilling six three-pointers to pace the Mounties.
Trent Rogers followed with 17 points on 66.7% shooting, connecting on 5-of-8 shots from beyond the arc.
Porter Abrams added a strong all-around performance with 16 points on 80% shooting, seven rebounds, and a block.
Walla Walla University placed five players in double figures, led by JT Fenz and Chike Ezeonu with 14 points apiece. Both Wolves shot 66.7% from the floor and recorded a steal, but WWU was unable to keep pace with Eastern Oregon's offensive surge.
With the convincing win, the Mounties continue to build momentum as conference play resumes, moving to 9-2 in conference and 14-5 overall.
The Mountaineers continue the weekend on the road tomorrow, January 24, as they head to Lewis-Clark State College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. PT.
