Mountaineers Edge Bucs to Stay Perfect at Home

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon women's soccer team continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 victory over Park-University Gilbert (Ariz.) on Wednesday morning at Community Stadium. With the win, the Mountaineers improved to 3-0-0—matching the program's best start since 2018.

Eastern Oregon struck early and held firm. In the eighth minute, junior forward Ashley Smith slotted home her first goal of the season after a well-placed assist from Ava Henkemeyer, giving EOU an early 1-0 advantage that would stand as the final score.

The Mountaineers' defense dominated throughout, limiting the visiting Buccaneers to just one shot in the match and zero on target. Goalkeeper Rylee Schei secured her third win and third clean sheet of the season.

EOU generated 12 total shots—including four on goal—but were unable to add an insurance goal despite several quality second-half chances. Smith led the attack with two shots on target, while Mackenzie Isaak and Henkemeyer each contributed one.

The Mountaineers and Buccaneers each earned one corner kick, while Park-Gilbert (2-3-0) committed 12 fouls to Eastern Oregon's 10. The Tigers split goalkeeping duties, with Morgan Trail and Journey Morimoto combining for three saves in the loss.

With the win, Eastern Oregon improves to 3-0 to open the season for the first time in seven years. The Mounties will look to keep the momentum rolling as they continue non-conference action Sunday back at home against Whitman College at 1 p.m.
