CORVALLIS, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University's
Jacob Russell and
Ava Semprimoznik have been named the Cascade Collegiate Conference McDonald's Players of the Week, presented by Urban Edge Network, for their standout performances last week.
Men's Soccer - Defense
The sophomore captain from Yakima, Washington, was an undeniable force on the pitch, anchoring the backline with a commanding presence. Russel's contributions were pivotal in the Mounties' 3-0 shutout victory over Bushnell University on Friday night, as well as their resilient 0-0 draw with Corban on Saturday, ensuring EOU's unbeaten record remains intact.
His exceptional ability to disrupt the opposition's attack and maintain possession for the Mounties generated valuable offensive opportunities, while simultaneously limiting Bushnell's offense to just four shots on goal, and Corban to a single shot, which was not on goal.
Russel has been a cornerstone of EOU's defense, playing a key role in securing five shutouts this season, during which the team has only allowed a mere 11 shots on goal.
Volleyball - Setter
Semprimoznik, a redshirt freshman from Spokane, Washington, ran an efficient Mountaineer offense while also contributing strong back-row defense in Eastern's wins over No. 17 Lewis-Clark State and (RV) Walla Walla.
Across the two matches, she totaled 41 assists (5.86 per set), 18 digs (2.57 per set), and 3 service aces to help the Mounties remain the only undefeated team in the CCC at 16-0. Against the Warriors, Semprimoznik posted a 23-assist, 14-dig double-double, which are both career-high numbers.
This marks the first time that Semprimoznik has earned a weekly conference recognition, and the sixth time this season that one has been awarded to EOU Volleyball.
