LA GRANDE, Ore. – A season-high 17 kills for redshirt junior
Keira Vaughn led the No. 1 Eastern Oregon volleyball team over No. 3 Corban University on Saturday night, as the Mountaineers took down the Warriors 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23.
The match marks EOU's 14th-consecutive victory, and the 11th win against a program that is ranked or receiving votes in the national poll.
Eastern (14-0, 6-0 CCC) hit .222 percent as a team while holding Corban (10-3, 4-2 CCC) to a .153 clip, despite the Warriors holding the advantage in kills 54-48. The Mountaineers were also out-aced 12-5 in a match that saw a combined 20 service errors from two of the most dominant teams in the country.
It was the blocking game that pushed EOU over the edge, as the Mounties collected 12 in comparison to Corban's five.
Kiauna Mack led the way with seven assisted, followed by
Mylie Mills who posted five.
Mack was on the heels of Vaughn offensively, totaling nine kills on a .412 percentage. Quarterbacking the effort was
Kate Stidham's 28 assists. She also led Eastern with 17 digs–good for her third double-double of the year.
Both squads demonstrated undeniable resilience across all four tightly contested sets, and the energy inside of Quinn Coliseum was like no other. The result of the match makes their next meeting even more highly anticipated than tonight's, as we await Friday, October 17 for the battle in Salem.
In the meantime, the Mountaineers will hit the road next weekend for a series with No. 17 Lewis-Clark State and (RV) Walla Walla. The former is also undefeated, but at 8-0 (5-0 CCC).
