WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The No. 15-seeded Mountaineers saw their season come to a close in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament, falling 62-51 to No. 2-seeded University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) at the O. Wayne Rollins Center.
Despite a strong fourth-quarter push, Eastern Oregon could not overcome an early deficit, trailing by nine points at the halftime break. Cumberlands' offense was led by Kassie Monday, who recorded a game-high 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Lakin Burke controlled the boards for the Patriots, finishing with 15 rebounds and 11 points.
The Mountaineers struggled with efficiency, shooting just 30.5% from the field, including a 4-for-28 performance from beyond the arc. However, EOU's defense held strong, forcing 16 turnovers and recording seven steals while limiting Cumberlands to just 1-of-10 shooting from three-point range. The Patriots found their way to the free-throw line 31 times but converted only 13 of those attempts.
Kelsie Siegner led the Mountaineers with 14 points, five rebounds, and two blocks. Teammate Maggie Smith added five points and five steals.
Senior Brie Holecek closed out her collegiate career with a double-double, tallying 12 rebounds and 10 points.
With Friday's loss, Eastern Oregon concludes a successful season with a 19-10 overall record.
