LA GRANDE, Ore. – Scoring came easy for the Mountaineers in a dominant 110-72 victory over Walla Walla on Friday afternoon at Quinn Coliseum. All 13 Mountaineers who saw the floor contributed to the scoring column as EOU (15-8, 10-7 CCC) delivered a well-rounded offensive performance.
Eastern Oregon shot an impressive 65.8% from the field and dished out 29 assists in a display of unselfish basketball. The Mountaineers' bench was a major factor, outscoring Walla Walla's reserves 61-17.
The Mountaineers connected on their first six shots from three-point distance, finishing the game with 12 total triples.
Garrett Hawkes led the way with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Trent Rogers poured in 17 points off the bench, hitting three of his four attempts from beyond the arc. Brennen Newsom added 14 points, and Kamal Muhammad chipped in 12, going 6-of-7 from the floor.
EOU seized control early, racing to a 58-28 halftime lead behind suffocating defense and efficient ball movement. The Mountaineers never looked back, maintaining their offensive rhythm in the second half while limiting turnovers to just nine on the night.
Walla Walla (4-17, 3-14 CCC) was led by Andrew Vaughan, who tallied 19 points, and Thomas Mestrov, who added 18. The Wolves shot 46.9% from the field but struggled to keep pace with EOU's high-powered attack.
Eastern Oregon returns to action tomorrow night to face off against Cascade Collegiate Conference rival Lewis-Clark State at Quinn Coliseum, with tip-off set for 5:00 p.m. PT.
