LA GRANDE, Ore. – RV Eastern Oregon Women's Basketball remained perfect on the season, pushing their record to 10-0 with a dominant 89-53 win over Walla Walla University. Riding the momentum from their victory the night before over No. 10 Lewis-Clark State, the Mountaineers controlled the game from start to finish.
EOU quickly took advantage of Walla Walla's cold shooting, building a 42-22 halftime lead. The Wolves shot just 39% from the field and 23% from three in the first half, while neither team attempted a free throw in the opening two quarters—a rare stat line that reflected Eastern's clean defensive execution.
The Mounties continued their strong play in the second half, outscoring Walla Walla 47-31. The Wolves again struggled to generate efficient offense, shooting only 32% from the field and 25% from the arc after the break. Eastern sent Walla Walla to the line 12 times, where the Wolves converted 9, while EOU earned 7 points from their own trips to the stripe. Despite a cold night from deep, just 22% in the second half, Eastern stayed consistent inside, finishing the game at nearly 43% shooting after halftime.
Walla Walla's bright spot was the impressive play of Jaylo Bello, who poured in 29 points with 5 rebounds and 2 steals. However, Eastern's defensive pressure overwhelmed the Wolves, forcing 21 turnovers and holding WWU to just one second-chance point.
Overall, the Mountaineers posted a strong shooting night at 46.8% from the field despite connecting on just 28.6% from three. They dominated in the paint with a 56–18 advantage and capitalized on Walla Walla's mistakes, scoring 25 points off turnovers and 24 fast-break points. Eastern's depth also played a major role, with the bench contributing 50 points compared to Walla Walla's 4.
Reigha Niemeyer led Eastern Oregon with 15 points off the bench, while
Haylee Johnson delivered a standout performance with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and a steal while shooting 67% from the field.
Kelsie Siegner added 14 points along with 3 assists and 3 steals, and
Maggie Smith anchored the interior with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals.
The Mountaineers will return to action on Friday, December 19, traveling to Kirkland, Washington, to face Northwest University in another Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
