LEXINGTON, Ky. – Eastern Oregon volleyball earned major recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Friday, as senior middle blocker
Kiauna Mack was named the AVCA NAIA West Region Player of the Year and
Kaki McLean Morehead was selected Coach of the Year. The Mountaineers placed two on the All-Region First Team—Mack and
Keira Vaughn—while
Brooke Womack collected Honorable Mention recognition.
Across the nine NAIA regions, each All-Region team features 14 student-athletes, along with eight honorable mention selections. Player, Freshman, Coach, and Assistant Coach of the Year awards are also chosen in every region.
Mack and Vaughn were two of just nine Cascade Collegiate Conference athletes to earn All-Region honors this season, while Womack was one of five CCC players to receive an honorable mention nod.
Under McLean Morehead's leadership, the Mountaineers have pieced together a remarkable 32-2 campaign and continue their pursuit of the Red Banner in Sioux City, Iowa. EOU enters the national semifinals hitting .278 as a team while holding opponents to a mere .112, buoyed by a dominant 2.8 blocks per set defensive presence.
Mack has been the anchor of that effort, averaging 1.69 blocks per set and attacking at an elite .376 clip. Vaughn has been equally impactful, posting 3.45 kills per set on .319 hitting. Womack has been EOU's do-it-all presence, averaging 2.53 kills per set while ranking second on the team in digs and standing within the top five in nearly every other statistical category.
Eastern Oregon returns to action on Monday, December 8, facing No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan in the NAIA National Semifinal at 5 p.m. CT.
