KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Eastern Oregon University Women's Basketball remains in the national eye, earning 39 votes in the third NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Wednesday morning.
The Mounties have maintained an unblemished 10-0 start to the season and further solidified their national presence with a 63-52 victory over then-No. 10 Lewis-Clark State since the previous poll. Their strong start has captured the attention of coaches across the country as Eastern Oregon inches closer to breaking into the Top 25.
Eastern Oregon's success has been fueled by standout senior
Kelsie Siegner, who has earned Cascade Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors over the past two weeks. Siegner is averaging 13.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while shooting 39.7% from the field, 35.4% from three-point range, and 87.5% from the free-throw line. She has also contributed across the stat sheet with 18 assists, 14 steals, and 17 blocks on the season.
Kaiea Waiwaiole and
Maggie Smith continue to be key presences for the Mounties, posting impressive efficiency numbers. Waiwaiole is shooting 66.1 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 68.2 percent from the charity stripe, while averaging 9.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. She has also recorded 23 assists and nine steals through the first 10 contests.Smith averages 9.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, having been particularly effective on the defensive glass, with more than 77% of her rebounds coming on the defensive end. She has also added 25 assists, 12 steals, and three blocks this season.
As a team, Eastern Oregon is averaging 71.8 points and 41.9 rebounds per game while shooting 41.2% from the field, 32.8% from three-point range, and 73.2% from the free-throw line.
The Cascade Conference remains well represented in the national poll, with Lewis-Clark State ranked No. 15, Corban at No. 18, and Oregon Tech at No. 20, while Southern Oregon also receiving votes.
With national recognition continuing to build, the Mounties remain on the cusp of the NAIA Top 25 as they continue their impressive early-season run and bringing their momentum into conference play.
