LA GRANDE, Ore. – Behind two second-half penalty kick goals from
Peyton Jacaway, Eastern Oregon women's soccer team earned a dramatic 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Southern Oregon on Saturday afternoon at Community Stadium for a Senior Day win. The Mountaineers (10-4-1, 7-2-0 CCC) overcame an early deficit to hand the Raiders (9-2-1, 6-1-1 CCC) their first loss of conference play.
Southern Oregon struck first in the 15th minute when Miller Bertani scored off a corner kick delivery from Macie Yannoni. Despite the early setback, EOU remained aggressive, outshooting SOU 15-5 over the course of the match, including eight shots in the second half.
Jacaway leveled the match in the 65th minute, converting her first penalty kick after a foul inside the box. Just over 12 minutes later, she delivered again from the spot—this time in the 78th minute—for her second PK goal of the day and fifth of the season.
Jacaway led all players with four shots on goal, while Karina DeYoung and Ava Henkemeyer added two and one, respectively. Ashley Smith also posted three shot attempts as the Mounties controlled possession in the attacking third.
Goalkeeper Rylee Schei recorded one save in the win, anchoring a defensive unit that limited the Raiders to just two shots on goal.
Eastern Oregon also recognized its 11 seniors. During halftime of the men's game, the Mounties celebrated Senior Day by honoring the outstanding players who have dedicated their time and effort to the program.
EOU returns home next Friday to host the University of Providence at 4 p.m. in its final home match of the season.
