Hawkes Scores 31 in Victory Over Lions

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon Mountaineers Men's Basketball powered past the Multnomah Lions with a commanding 105-80 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum.

The Mountaineers built a solid lead early, taking a 43-33 advantage into halftime. They extended their dominance in the second half, outscoring the Lions 62-47 behind an efficient offensive performance.

Eastern Oregon shot an impressive 54.3% from the field, including 41.7% from beyond the arc. Their defensive intensity held Multnomah to 43.5% shooting and just 28.6% from three-point range. The Mounties dominated the glass with a 45-32 rebounding advantage and capitalized on turnovers, converting 17 points off Multnomah miscues.

Garrett Hawkes led the charge for Eastern Oregon with a game-high 31 points, shooting 12-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.

Brennen Newsom contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, and one block. The Eastern Oregon bench provided significant support, tallying 39 points, with Trent Rogers adding 13 and James Bodily chipping in 14 points, including a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

For the Lions, Braedon Edison came off the bench to lead Multnomah with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Noah McCord and Keilan Torkornoo each scored 12 points, with Torkornoo adding nine rebounds.

Up next EOU will now travel to the Southern Oregon University Raiders on January 24 at 7:30 p.m.
