KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The No. 2-ranked Eastern Oregon University volleyball team continued its perfect start to the season, sweeping Oregon Tech 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-23) on Friday night at Danny Miles Court. The matchup marked the first Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) game for the Mountaineers, who improved to 9-0 overall and 1-0 in CCC play, while the Owls dropped to 7-3 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
Eastern Oregon was led by a balanced offensive attack, with Kiauna Mack delivering 16 kills and nine blocks on an impressive .440 hitting percentage. Keira Vaughn added 13 kills and four blocks, while Ashton Bales contributed eight kills and three blocks. As a team, the Mountaineers hit .180, totaling 50 kills on 139 attempts.
The Mountaineers' defense also played a key role in the victory, with libero Hailey Arritola anchoring the backline with a game-high 25 digs. Setter Alexis McMurtrey orchestrated the offense, dishing out 25 assists while adding 11 digs of her own.
Oregon Tech put up a fight in each set, led by Savanna Sterck's 12 kills and Willow Jacobson's efficient nine kills on a .450 hitting percentage. Molly Grace chipped in with six kills and two blocks, while Tiana Barrett and Aleksen Thayer added three kills each. Despite their efforts, the Owls were held to a .126 team hitting percentage, committing 20 attack errors.
EOU's ability to limit errors and control the game defensively proved to be the difference, as they out-blocked Oregon Tech 18-16 and recorded 70 digs to the Owls' 57.
The Mountaineers will face their biggest test of the season tomorrow night, taking on the No. 5-ranked Southern Oregon Raiders in Ashland. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. PT.
