FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon women's lacrosse team faced off against Pacific University in a close battle until the final whistle, but ultimately came up short with a final score of 9-13 in favor of Pacific University.
The game started off as a tight defensive battle, resulting in a tied score of 2-2 by the end of the first period. Devyn Davis scored both goals for the Boxers, while Maddy Woodruff and Jade McCoy contributed scores for the Mounties in the first period.
As the game progressed, Pacific University managed to gain a slight edge, entering halftime with a narrow 5-4 lead. Despite Eastern Oregon's best efforts, the Boxers continued to extend their lead in the third period to make the scoreboard read 11-6 in their favor.
Mounting a comeback attempt led by late goals from Claire Bever, Red Pratt, and Natalie VanderPloeg, the Mountaineers got close but could not come away from Saturday's contest with the victory.
Noteworthy performances included a hat-trick from Jade McCoy, as well as two goals from both Bever and Woodruff for Eastern Oregon. Davis was easily the most impressive offensive performer for Pacific, finishing the afternoon with an impressive eight goals.
In the net, Diane Crets held it down with 12 total saves for the Boxers, while Sydney Vopat tallied 3 saves for the Mounties.
The Eastern Oregon women's lacrosse team will next travel to Salem on March 2 for their matchup with Willamette University, scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
