Eastern Oregon Holds Off Southern Oregon, 70-67

LA GRANDE, Ore. — Eastern Oregon men's basketball held off a late surge by Southern Oregon University to claim a 70-67 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum.

EOU was powered by Garrett Hawkes, who tallied a game-high 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including a critical three-pointer in the second half. Jaden Hansen provided steady playmaking for the Mounties, dishing out five assists while chipping in eight points. Malachi Afework also delivered a spark off the bench, scoring 10 points, including two clutch three-pointers.

Southern Oregon kept the contest close behind the efforts of Elijah Jackson, who scored 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including two three-pointers. Despite Jackson's performance, the Raiders struggled with turnovers, committing 15, which the Mountaineers converted into 17 points.

The Mountaineers held a slim 37-32 lead at halftime. Southern Oregon briefly took the lead with six minutes remaining, before Eastern Oregon responded with a 6-0 run fueled by key baskets from Hawkes and TJ Doman, who added 14 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting.
