CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday that the Eastern Oregon University men's soccer team has been named the Under Armour Team of the Week for November 11–17.
For the first time in program history, the Mountaineers claimed the CCC Championship Tournament title.
In the quarterfinals, EOU defeated the College of Idaho 2-1. Jahrie Gray leveled the score for the Mountaineers in the 81st minute, and Cristian Trujillo sealed the win with a goal just two minutes before the final whistle. The victory advanced EOU to the semifinals against Warner Pacific University.
The semifinal matchup ended with EOU winning 2-1 in overtime. The Mountaineers outshot WPU 17-10, with Abner Hernandez scoring in the first half off an assist from Daniel Kropf. Edgar Romero Perez secured the game-winning goal in the 100th minute with a shot from 20 yards up the left sideline, sending EOU to the championship game.
In the CCC Tournament Championship, EOU defeated top-seeded Carroll College 2-0. Angel Sandoval reached the back of the net early in the second half with a goal in the 47th minute. In the 78th minute, Abner Hernandez extended the lead by scoring off a header from Tawanda Rice.
With their tournament victory, the Mountaineers advance to Dalton, Ga., where they will face Southeastern (Fla.) on Thursday in the opening round of the NAIA Men's Soccer Tournament Championship.
