Mountaineers Compete at Linfield George Oja Invite

INDEPENDENCE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon's cross country teams put forth strong efforts at the Linfield George Oja Invite on Saturday, with several athletes delivering standout performances in a competitive field.

Both events featured a crowded field of NAIA, NCAA, and NJCAA programs, with 19 teams participating in the women's race and 23 in the men's race.

The men's team saw a solid showing, finishing 3rd overall with 112 points. On the women's side, they finished 9th overall with 212 points.

MEN'S 8K

The Mountaineer men placed well in a tough field, led by Justin Ash's 10th-place finish with a time of 24:38.8. Ash's effort provided a strong start for EOU, followed by George Showers, who finished 29th with a time of 25:20.3. Cristian Mendoza was close behind in 36th place, clocking in at 25:28.1. Grady Greenwood finished 39th in 25:31.7, and Trevor Nichols rounded out the top five for EOU with a 41st-place finish in 25:36.7.

WOMEN'S 5K

On the women's side, Sadie McCoy was the top finisher for the Mounties, placing 34th overall with a time of 22:53.8. Kaleah Hines followed, finishing 50th with a time of 23:27.8, while Riley Morris crossed the line in 58th place with a time of 23:35.3. Kiah Carlson finished in 63rd with a time of 23:44, and Mattie Woodbury completed the top five for the Mounties, finishing 67th in 23:58.4.

Eastern Oregon aims to carry this momentum forward as they prepare for the Sasquatch Open in Spokane, Washington, on October 25th.
