LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon men's basketball secured an 83-70 victory over Northwest, led by the hustle of Jonny Hillman on both ends of the court. Hillman, the Cascade Collegiate Conference's leader with 39 takeaways this season, collected eight steals throughout the contest, tying the program's all-time single game record. His overall performance included 16 points, 8 steals, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block, impacting the game in various ways.
Eastern Oregon took control early and maintained their throughout the game. Despite shooting 47.3% from the field, including 50% shooting from deep in the first half, the Eagles recorded 21 turnovers throughout the contest. The Mountaineers wasted no time capitalizing on these errors, scoring 32 total points off turnovers.
Hillman's standout performance was complemented by notable contributions from other key players, with Garrett Hawkes also recording 15 points and 6 rebounds. Jaden Hansen finished the game with 11 points and 7 assists, while Brennen Newsom added 8 points and three rebounds.
Luke Howard led Northwest with 15 points and 5 rebounds, despite turning the ball over 7 times throughout the contest.
With Saturday's victory, the Mounties improve their season record to 6-6 in CCC play, set to host Southern Oregon next Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Quinn Coliseum.
