No. 25 Mounties Complete Sweep of Eagles

LA GRANDE, Ore.- Eastern Oregon was back in action Saturday afternoon as they took on the Eagles of Northwest University in a double header. The Mounties showed to be too much for the Eagles as they were able to complete the weekend sweep winning the first game by a score of 11-5 and the second game by a score of 8-5.

GAME 1

Eastern jumped out to an early first inning lead after a three run inning highlighted by a Kelly Monaghan single up the middle that scored Gates Leatherwood. 

Northwest responded with three runs of their own in the top of the second  highlighted by a Chloe Van Boekhout single through the right side that scored Cedella Ritchie. A couple of Eagle errors led to three Mountaineer runs in the bottom of the second along with a Maddy Stateler single to right field that scored Haley Tyree taking the score to 6-3 in favor of the Mounties. 

Northwest tacked on one run in the top of the third after a Ritchie sacrifice fly brought Sydney Maurer home. EOU found another run in the bottom of the fourth after a Kelly Mopnaghan single through the right side scored Gates Leatherwood taking the score to 7-4. 

The Eagles scored one in the top of the fifth inning after a Jamelah Lewis sacrifice fly brought Paige Creasey home. Eastern rallied four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning highlighted by a Haley Tyree two-run home run over the left field fence taking the score to 11-5. 

EOU and Northwest got locked in a scoreless stalemate the last two innings giving Eastern an 11-5 win.

GAME 2

Eastern jumped out to another early lead in game two after a Hannah Tyree single in the bottom of the first scored Addison Ribordy and a Haley Tyree single to center field in the top of the second scored Haley Ebner. 

Northwest rallied back tying the game up in the top of the third after a Bella King two-run home run down the right field line brought the score to two a piece. Eastern responded with a huge bottom half of the third inning, scoring six total. The big inning was started off by a Kelly Monaghan double down the left field line that scored both Gates Leatherwood and Addison Ribordy. Haley Tyree followed up with a single to center field that scored Ebner and Monaghan and then the inning was capped off with a Ribordy single through the right side that scored Haley Tyree and Caitlin Crist, taking the score to 8-2. 

Northwest added three runs in the top of the fifth highlighted by a Sydney Maurer single up the middle that scored Paige Creasey and Kayla Stanley but it would not be enough as the Mountaineers closed out the Eagles to take game two by a score of 8-5.
