Hoskins Becomes EOU Single-Season Strikeout Leader

LA GRANDE, Ore.- Eastern Oregon was back in action Friday afternoon as they took on the Eagles of Northwest University for a Cascade Collegiate Conference double header. The Mounties showed to be too much for the Eagles as they were able to take the first game by a score of 11-0 in five innings and the second game by a score of 2-0. In game two, Kaylie Hoskins became the EOU single-season strikeout leader.

GAME 1

The Mounties were led in the circle by Kaylie Hoskins. The sophomore from Lake Stevens, Wash. had another great performance, going the distance for the Mounties while adding 12 strikeouts and allowing zero Eagle runs. The Mounties held a 2-0 lead before opening the game up in the bottom of the fourth. Eastern rallied nine total runs in the inning started off by a Addison Ribordy single up the middle that scored two runs followed by a Gates Leatherwood single that brought Ribordy home. The Mounties then loaded the bases leading to a Haley Ebner shot over the center field fence for a grand slam. Eastern was not done there as Caitlin Crist capped off the Mountaineers huge inning with a two run home run over the left field fence taking the score to 11-0. Hoskins and the Mounties closed out the Eagles in the top of the fifth to take game 1, 11-0.

GAME 2

The Mounties were led in the circle in game two once again by Kaylie Hoskins. Hoskins went the distance for the Mounties, adding 11 strikeouts while allowing just one hit and no runs. Hoskins' 11 strikeouts in game two takes her to 206 total strikeouts this season, putting her at the top of the EOU record books as the single-season strikeout leader. This is also the 10th complete game shutout that Hoskins has thrown this season just two away from another EOU record. Northwest was led in the circle in game two by Natalie Dimitrov who went the distance while adding seven strikeouts. Eastern found their first run of the game after a Caitlin Crist double off the center field fence scored Kelly Monaghan. Eastern tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth after a Gates Leatherwood single up the middle scored Maddy Stateler taking the score to 2-0. Eastern was able to close out the Eagles the rest of the way taking game two by a score of 2-0
