La Grande, Ore.- The Mounties were back in action Saturday afternoon for the second half of their Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup. The Mounties took on Corban University at La Grande High School due to other Eastern events in Quinn Coliseum. The match was back and forth but in the end the Mountaineers emerged victorious 24-20.
Pins showed to be the difference for the Mounties today as they racked up three pins in total. The first pin of the night was in the 141 pound division by Jaxon Morlan giving the Mounties a 9-5 lead early. A Warrior's decision win took the score to 9-8, but Vincent Cramer of the 157 pound division delivered in a big way pinning Corban's Jordan Piercy at the 5:23 mark. Corban did not go away, winning each of the next two matches taking the score to 17-15 in favor of the Warriors. It was then time for Eastern's all time leader in pins, Kyle Knudtson, to take the mat and in Kyle Knudtson fashion, he took the match by pin at the 2:44 mark giving the Mounties a 21-17 lead. Jay Smith closed the match out for Eastern adding three more points to the Mounties score leading to the 24-20.
Eastern will be back in action Sunday, Jan. 29 as they travel to Clackamas, Ore. to compete in the Clackamas Open.Â
