LA GRANDE, Ore. - The No. 16 ranked Mounties took care of business against Walla Walla University taking home a 79-62 victory over the Wolves. With the win the Mounties advance to 18-2 on the year and 13-1 in CCC Play. The loss drops Walla Walla to 4-13 overall and 3-11 in conference.
The first half was a tale of two quarters as Walla Walla hung with EOU in the first quarter. Eastern actually trailed with just over three minutes to go in the quarter before outscoring the Wolves 5-2 over the last couple minutes to retake the lead at 18-16. The second quarter ended up defining the game as EOU outscored Walla Walla 25-6 to pull away to a 43-22 halftime lead. Eastern spread out their attack but it was
Haley Robinett who drove the nail home to end the first half scoring three of the last four buckets for Eastern.
A big second quarter proved to be too much for the Wolves to overcome as the Mounties were actually outscored by the Wolves in the second half. Walla Walla's Jaliyah Casem put up 20 second half points trying to bring Walla Walla back but it wasn't enough. Eastern relied on their depth to carry them home as they had 15 players register minutes with eight of them scoring in the second half. The Mounties cruised to a 79-62 victory.
With Friday's win behind them Eastern now turns their attention to the No. 9 ranked Lewis-Clark State Warriors. The Mounties will host Lewis-Clark tomorrow afternoon in Quinn Coliseum with tipoff set for 4 p.m.
