MOSCOW, Idaho- The Mounties held their own against some stiff competition at the Vandal Open and Lauren McClusky Multi meet hosted by the University of Idaho. The most impressive performances of the meet came from graduate student
Michelle Herbes who put together two "A" Standard performances in the women's 1,000-meter race and women's 600 meter race. The Union, Oregon native moved up the EOU all-time leaderboards with times that ranked second in program history in both events.

WOMEN
On the women's side it was
Michelle Herbes who stole the show, but also putting together strong performances was
Katie Jo Gebhardt in the 1,000 meter race,
Maggie Ledbetter in the throws, and Lizzy Grandle in the pentathalon.

Herbes started the meet with an impressive time of 2:56.45 in the 1,000 meter race on Friday which was good for a career PR and a first place finish. The time also earned her an automatic qualification for the national championships and put her at No. 2 all time for EOU in the race behind only Faith Homer who set the record in 2018. In her next event on Saturday Herbes again earned an "AQ" in the 600 meter race. This go around she posted a time of 1:34.93 finishing second overall. Like her performance in the 1,000-meter race, her time in the 600 also ranks second all time in EOU program history.

Katie Jo Gebhardt also posted a quality performance in the women's 1,000-meter race. The Idaho native finished fifth with a time of 3:07.7 which ranks in the top-10 of the EOU record books.

In the shorter races,
Yahaira Chavarria-Mondragon put together a notable performance in the 200 with a PR time of 26.56 placing 14th. She also finished 14th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.98 seconds.

In the throws
Maggie Ledbetter had another strong weekend hitting "B" standard marks in the weight throw and the shot put. In the weight throw Ledbetter took fourth with a toss of 52 feet and 1 inch which ranks in the top-five of the EOU record book. Then in the shot put the graduate student hit another "B" mark with a throw of 43 feet, 11 and 3/4 inches finishing fifth overall.

Last but not least was a strong performance from
Elizabeth Grandle in the pentathalon. The freshman finished seventh overall posting a score of 3,043 points, which ranks in the top 10 in program history for the Mountaineers. Her strongest performance came in the shot put where she had the second best throw at 33 feet and 6 inches.

MEN
For the men it was strong performances in the distance races that told the story. Jonny Wind lead the way in that category with a standout showing in the 1,000 meter race while the Mounties had three top-20 finishers in the 3,000 meter race.
Judson Mansfield also put together a quality performance in the men's heptathalon.

Wind had arguable the best race finishing second overall with a time of 2:30.49 in the 1,000 meter race. The junior earned a "B" standard and moved into the top-10 of the EOU record books for the race.

In the 3,000-meter race the Mounties had an overall strong team performance with three top-20 finishers and six in the top 30.
Winston Telford led the way finishing 11th with a time of 8:44.42. Also in the top 20 were EOU's
Hunter Nichols (13th) and
Justin Ash (17th).
Caleb Brown,
Travis Running, and
Bennett Welch were the other three runners finishing in the top 30 for the Mountaineers.

As for the heptathalon, it was
Judson Mansfield leading the way for EOU. The Washington native finished eighth overall with a score of 4,527. His strongest individual performance came in the 60 meter hurdles where he finished ninth with a time of 8.83 seconds.
