CORVALLIS, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Volleyball earned their second Cascade Collegiate Conference Team of the Week award of the 2022 season. The Under Armour sponsored award goes to the most outstanding team in the conference each week.
"We are so honored to receive this award again this year," Coach
Kaki McLean Morehead said. "It speaks to the hard work and preparation these young ladies have put in."
The Mounties claim the award for the second time thanks to their impressive efforts in conference-opening play. EOU played two matches this week, winning both. On Friday evening the Mountaineers swept the conference favorite, No. 5 Corban, then followed with another impressive performance beating Bushnell in four sets.
In the first conference match of the season the Mounties put up one of their best performances to date sweeping the nation's number five team and CCC favorite, Corban. Friday night on the road the Mounties took three sets in order, 27-25, 25-21, 25-17. Impressive defense was the key to the victory as EOU led Corban in both blocks and digs, the largest margin being in blocks where the Mounties put up 14 blocks to Corban's 3.
Following their victory over Corban, EOU put another tally in the win column beating Bushnell in four sets, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16, 25-15. Eastern relied on a balanced attack and strong service game to take down the Beacons. In total EOU racked up 13 service aces in the win.
"I'm incredibly proud of the high level at which they played this weekend, but also in the last three weeks," Coach McLean Morehead said.
The Mounties sit at 9-1 through their first 10 matches and are currently on a nine-match winning streak. Of their nine wins, six have come against nationally ranked opponents. EOU continues conference play on Friday, Sept. 9, when they take on conference opponent Lewis-Clark State College at 7 p.m. in Lewiston, Idaho.
