Mounties Complete Fourth-Straight Sweep in Win Over Oregon Tech

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University racked up its fourth straight sweep and sixteenth win in a row beating Oregon Tech at home on Saturday. The Mounties beat the Owls in a tight three sets, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23.
 
The first set went to the Mounties after they jumped out to an early 7-2 lead. EOU was able to hold onto that lead despite a comeback attempt from Oregon Tech as they brought it within three at set point. An Ashton Haughton kill sealed the first set victory for the Mounties.
 
Oregon Tech gained some steam in the second set jumping out to a 4-0 lead from the start. The Owls led all the way to the twenty-second point when the Mounties swung the momentum the other way, going on a five-point run to take the lead 23-22. Tech's Kaylin Talonen evened it back up at 23 before the Mounties took the last two points to take a 2-0 lead heading into the third frame.
 
With the match on the line the Mounties and Owls battled out a close third set. Neither team was able to grasp control of the set with the biggest lead getting up to a small three-point differential. Five kills from Kara Clayton helped the Mounties seal the victory to move to 16-1 on the season. With the loss Oregon Tech falls below .500 to 7-8.
 
After a five-game home stretch the Mountaineers will hit the road next week. EOU is slated to take on Northwest on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
