MIAMI GARDENS, FLA.- The Mounties looked to build off of their first win of the season as they were back in action Thursday afternoon versus the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University. The game concluded the Mountaineers three game trip in the hot Florida sun. The Mounties would ultimately end up taking the match 1-0 making their record 2-1 in the young 2022 season. 

The Mounties picked up right where they left off and were able to jump off to a hot start which was sparked by more outstanding defensive efforts leading to great looks on goal. The pace was controlled by the Mounties for the first half of today's match; accounting nine total shots with three of those being shots on goal. After many good looks the Mounties were finally rewarded for their great effort when Kana Mateaki found the back of the net in the 43rd minute. 

As the second half proceeded the Mounties continued to control the flow of the game. The Mounties were able to total five more shots in the second half with four of them being on goal but none were able to find the back of the net. The Mountaineers continued to assert their defensive dominance and have found a groove on that side of the ball these past two games in the early 2022 season. Another stellar effort was seen out of Sophomore Goalkeeper, Madeline Barker as she was able to save all five of the shots that she faced against the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University.

The Mounties will look to continue their winning ways as they return back to La Grande and take on the University of Jamestown at 11 A.M. on Sept. 5 at Community Stadium for their home opener.
