No. 4 Warriors Upend Mountaineers in Saturday Twin Bill

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Mountaineers Baseball suffered two tough losses Saturday afternoon as they dropped an 18-3 contest in seven innings in game one and fell 13-4 in game two to No. 4 Lewis-Clark State College. Eastern Oregon falls to 9-30 overall and 2-12 in league play after the day two setback against the Warriors.

Game 1 – No. 4 LC State 18, Eastern Oregon 3 (7 Innings)
How it Happened

• The Warriors (38-2, 9-2 CCC)overpowered the Mountaineers on offense, out-hitting them 14-7 in the run-ruled win. They smacked four homers and had nine extra base hits in the contest.
• The Mounties got off to a sluggish start and never recovered. LC State got ahead right away in the first with a three-run homer and ultimately scored six runs to go ahead 6-0 after one.
• After notching three hits in the first, the Warriors tacked on four hits in the second and scored four runs to grab a 10-0 lead. They hit another homer in the second to help break open the game.
• EOU scored two of its three runs in the bottom of the. Brooks Dyer got on with a leadoff error and was scored on an Ethan Snodgrass RBI double. Easton Watterson then smacked a double to score Snodgrass to make it a 10-2 game.
• Following a scoreless third, LC State scored once in the fourth to lead 11-2. EOU loaded the bases and ultimately gave up the run on a walk.
• In the fifth, the Warriors hit their third home run of the day with a two-run shot to center. They led 13-2 before exploding for five runs in the sixth.
• The first two runs scored for LC State came on an RBI double and single, respectively. The Warriors then hit their final homer, scoring three to bring the score to 18-2.
• The final run for Eastern came in the bottom of the sixth. Brooks Dyer led off with a double and was immediately scored on a Donovan Gonzalez RBI single to bring the score to its final of 18-3.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
Ethan Snodgrass batted 2-2 with a run scored and had an RBI.
Brooks Dyer went 1-3 at the plate and scored two runs. 
Donovan Gonzalez and Easton Watterson both finished 1-3 with an RBI.
Nick Jennings (1-3) went two frames in the start and had three strikeouts.

For the Warriors
• Sam Linscott went 3-5, with three RBI, had a home run and scored three runs.
• Aidan Nagle batted 2-2 with a home run, three RBI and scored four runs. He also drew three walks.
• Luke White hit a home run, went 2-4 and had three RBI to go along with two runs scored.
• Zach Threlfall finished 2-4 with a homer. He scored three runs and had two RBI.
• Eric Chavarria (6-1) pitched five complete in the start and had four strikeouts.
• Reliever Joe Ball pitched the final two frames and tallied four strikeouts.

Game 2 – No. 4 LC State 13, Eastern Oregon 4
How it Happened

• The Mountaineers fared better in the second game in terms of hits with four, but had three errors in the loss. They had 10 hits and surrendered 16 to the Warriors.
• Defensive EOU held LC State to just four runs in the first six innings. A late surge by LC State saw the team score nine runs between the seventh and eighth innings to hold on for the win.
• After a scoreless first frame, the Warriors got on the board in the second with a pair of doubles to plate three runs. They jumped ahead 4-0 in the third with an RBI single to left center.
• The score remained at 4-0 in the Warriors favor until the fifth. A leadoff error from LC State set up EOU to score two runs. An RBI groundout by Hector Carreon scored Easton Watterson for the first run.
• In the next at bat, Matt Garcia delivered an RBI triple to left field, scoring McKlane Elgin to cut the score to 4-2. Both teams played a scoreless fifth to keep the game close.
• A five-run seventh inning by the Warriors pushed their lead to 9-2. A three-run homer to right field quickly gave LC State a 7-2 edge.
• An RBI single and double, both to right center, tacked on the next two runs for the Warriors. EOU got back within five, 9-4, in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an Elliott Marks two-run homer to right center.
• In the eighth, LC State plated four more runs to bring the score to its final of 13-4. An RBI fielder's choice scored the first run before the Warriors hit another three-run homer to right center.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
Matt Garcia went 3-5 at the plate and had one RBI.
Elliott Marks batted 1-4, with a home run and had two RBI.
McKlane Elgin hit 1-5 and scored one run. 
• Both Jamie Powell and Garret Kollar hit 2-3 in the loss.
Davis Brown (2-7) pitched 6.1 innings in the loss and had three strikeouts.
• Reliever Kolbe Bales racked up three strikeouts in two complete frames pitched.

For the Warriors
• Justin Mazzone hit a homer, batted 3-6 with four RBI and scored two runs.
• Matt James went 3-5 at the plate, hitting a homer, with four RBI and scored two runs.
• A.J. Davis batted 3-5 with two RBI and drew a walk.
• Coy Stout was 2-4 with a run scored and tallied two RBI.
• Sam Linscott hit 2-3 with three runs scored.
• Eli Shubert (2-0) pitched two innings in relief and fanned six batters.
• Trevin Hope fanned five batters in three innings of relief work.

By the Numbers
5 - Eastern hit five doubles on day two against LC State. 
9 - The Mounties tallied nine total strikeouts in the Saturday doubleheader.
3 - With his home run in game two, Elliott Marks is tied for the team lead with three.
