LA GRANDE, Ore. – Mountaineers Baseball fell in their series opener to fourth-ranked Lewis-Clark State College in a 7-0 shutout at home. With the loss, Eastern Oregon falls to 9-28 overall and 2-10 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
How it Happened
• Lifting the Warriors (36-3, 7-2 CC) to the series opening win was seven hits, including two that went for home runs. Eastern mustered just four hits in the loss as they fell to 2-3 at home.
• Both homers for LC Stat came in the top of the sixth as a pair of two run shots lifted them to the win. A run in the fourth and two in the eighth added to the win as they posted the shutout.
• The first run for the Warriors came in the fourth, which was scored on the lone run of the day that EOU committed. An infield error got a run on before an RBI single scored the runner.
• The score remained 1-0 until the sixth when a pair of two-run homers, both to right center, owned the game up. The two long bombs brought the score to 3-0 and 5-0.
• LC State tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth to cruise to the win. The lead went to 7-0 on an RBI sacrifice fly before a wild pitch brought the score to its final of 8-0.
