CALDWELL, Idaho – Mountaineers Baseball had a bounce back effort on Sunday as the team swept day two of its series against rival College of Idaho. Eastern Oregon took down the Yotes by finals of 12-5 and 8-5 to salvage a 2-2 series split. With the two wins, EOU improves to 11-32 overall and 4-14 in league play.
Game 1 – Eastern Oregon 12, College of Idaho 5
How it Happened
• Eastern played a clean game with no errors in the win and outhit the Yotes (26-25, 14-10 CCC) 14-10. Three runs in the fifth and ninth, along with two in the third and seventh were key in the win.
• Both squads worked through a pair of scoreless frames to start before getting on the board in the third. EOU struck first, scoring two but the Yotes kept pace with the same amount.
•
McKlane Elgin drove in the first run with a groundout to second, scoring
Garret Kollar. An RBI sacrifice fly by
Brooks Dyer added the second run, bringing in
Adrian Roa to make it 2-0.
• In the home half of the third, C of I loaded the bases before a two RBI single plated two runs in to tie the game. Eastern limited the damage to just two runs to keep it locked at a 2-2 tie.
• EOU went ahead in the fourth as
Elliott Marks scored on an
Ethan Snodgrass groundout. On the mound, starter
Slayder Watterson worked a 1-2-3 frame to keep it at a 3-2 score.
• Two hits and a Yotes error helped EOU tack on three runs in the fifth. Dyer hit a deep single to center, scoring Roa who got on with a leadoff walk.
• Two batters later, Marks got on from the C of I error, which allowed Dyer to score.
Jamie Powell made it a 6-2 game with an RBI fielder's choice to bring in
Hector Carreon.
• The Yotes pulled back within two, 6-4, thanks to a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. From that point on, the Mounties were stout on defense and surrendered just one more run.
• In the sixth, Eastern tacked on one run to jump ahead 7-4. Elgin singled to left, allowing
Rogelio Gonzales to score. Watterson then worked another 1-2-3 frame to end the inning.
• In the top of the seventh, two runs by EOU made it a 9-4 game.
Easton Watterson plated Marks home on an RBI single to center. Three batters later he was scored on a base hit by Roa.
• The Yotes final run of the contest came in the bottom of the seventh. They hit a leadoff home run to make it a 9-5 game, but the EOU defense limited it to just the one run.
• Following a scoreless eighth, the Mounties added three runs in the ninth for insurance. Roa drove in Kollar to make it 10-5, before a Carreon two RBI double plated the final two runs to close the game at 12-5.

• Alex McFarland-Smith hit 2-5 with two RBI.
• Trevor Watkins went 2-3 at the plate and scored two runs.
• Weston Miller hit a home run and finished 1-4.
• Andrew Vaughn (2-4) suffered the loss. He pitched four complete frames and struck out five.
Game 2 – Eastern Oregon 8, College of Idaho 5
How it Happened
• EOU took the finale in what was a close game from start to finish. The Mounties once again had the edge in hits, 12-9.
• Eastern struck first yet again, scoring two runs in the first. C of I kept pace with two as well.
Elliott Marks got EOU on the board with a two RBI double, scoring
Hector Carreon and
McKlane Elgin.
• C of I grabbed its first lead of the game in the second. An RBI single to left field tacked on the run to give the Yotes the 3-2 edge. It remained 3-2 entering the fourth when EOU went back in front.
• The Mounties scored three runs in the fourth and held the Yotes scoreless until the ninth. An infield error by C of I tied the game as
Easton Watterson scored to make it 3-3.
• EOU went back in front on another error by the Yotes, allowing
Justin Duso to score. With the bases loaded, C of I surrendered an RBI walk to
Brooks Dyer and scored
Garret Kollar.
• Eastern took a 5-3 lead into the fifth and added another run to make it 6-3.
Jamie Powell led off with a base hit and four batters later, Roa scored him with an RBI single to right field.
• In the bottom of the fifth, the Yotes threatened as they loaded the bases with two outs. EOU held composure as starter
Bennett King closed out his performance with a swinging strikeout.
• Neither team scored in the sixth to keep the Mounties lead at three runs. Eastern then tacked on its final two runs of the day in the seventh to jump ahead 8-3.
• Kollar doubled to left field, scoring the first runner in Watterson who got on with a walk. In the next at bat, an infield error at shortstop allowed Gollar to score and put EOU up by five.
• Fast forward to the ninth, C of I looked to rally for a comeback. The Yotes managed to score two runs to make things interesting before EOU ended the frame.
• A two-out home run scored the first run for the Yotes to make it an 8-4 game. Back-to-back singles and an EOU error scored the second run before the game came to a close.
