Mountaineers Honor Seniors in Final Home Slate of Regular Season

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Mountaineers Baseball wrapped up its final weekend of play at home Sunday with three games against in-state foe Corban University. Eastern Oregon and Corban finished up its halted game from Saturday and played a doubleheader afterward.

The Mountaineers also honored 10 seniors on Sunday after the conclusion of the halted game for their contributions to the Mounties Baseball program. Being honored on Senior Day was Kolbe Bales, Austin Brown, Zach Brown, Trevor Curl, Brooks Dyer, McKlane Elgin, Payton Hamilton, Nick Jennings, Carsten Manderbach, and Dylan Myers.

In the halted game, play picked up at the bottom of the ninth with the score being 14-11 in favor of Corban. The Warriors held on for the win by that final score and then went on to win games two and three by finals of 5-3 and 10-3.

Game 1 – Corban 14, Eastern Oregon 11
How it Happened

• In the series opener, the Warriors (24-22-1, 11-12 CCC) barely outhit the Mounties (11-35, 4-17 CCC) 12-11. There was just one error in the game as well.
• EOU got on the board first thanks to an Elliott Marks double, scoring Rogelio Gonzales in the first. Corban tied the game in the top of the second on a double as well.
• The Warriors scored five runs in the top of the third to go ahead 6-1 and had two homers in the frame. EOU scored one run on an RBI double by Jamie Powell to make it a 6-2 game.
• From the fourth to the sixth inning, reliever Kolbe Bales and the EOU defense worked three straight 1-2-3 frames to stay within four. EOU did not score again though until the eighth.
• The scoring drought ended in the seventh as Corban scored a run to lead 7-2. The Warriors then exploded for five runs in the top of the eighth to jump ahead 12-2. An RBI single, a two RBI double, and two run home run gave the Warriors the 10-run lead.
• EOU avoided the run rule, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 12-4 score. A bases-loaded walk scored the first run before an RBI single by McKlane Elgin got EOU within eight.
• Corban got both runs back in top of the ninth as the team hit its fourth home run of the game. Rain made the game tough and played in EOU's favor as the team scored seven runs in the ninth for the near comeback.
• A wild pitch on a bases-loaded walk scored the first run for EOU. Justin Frederick then hit an RBI single to score Donovan Gonzalez and made it a 14-6 game.
• Another bases-loaded walk by the Warriors allowed Garret Kollar to score. Elgin then stepped to the plate and smacked a grand slam during the downpour to right field making it a 14-11 game.
• When play resumed, the Mounties got the leadoff batter in Carsten Manderbach on from a hit by pitch. Corban then got a strikeout and a lineout to the shortstop to close the game and held on for the series opening win.

• The final home run for the Warriors came in the top of the ninth. Cale Thompson smacked a solo homer to right field to give the Warriors a 10-1 advantage.
