KEIZER, Ore. – Mountaineers Baseball went Dutch on day one of its final non-conference series as they went 1-1 against in-state foe Corban University. Eastern Oregon took game two, 11-3, after dropping a close 3-2 contest in the series opener. Going into day two, EOU is now 7-16 on the year.
Game 1 – Corban 3, Eastern Oregon 2
How it Happened
• The Warriors (10-9-1) had the edge in hits in game one with eight. Eastern added seven in the loss, while both teams had one error.
• Both defenses played well in the contest as the series opener saw seven frames go scoreless. The lone multiple-run inning came in the ninth.
• EOU grabbed the first lead in the top of the fifth on the swing of
Donovan Gonzalez. He hit a leadoff home run to left center to give the Mounties a 1-0 advantage.
• Corban responded in the bottom of the sixth to tie things at 1-1. A single down the right field line plated home a runner with one out.EOU ended the frame with a double play.
• EOU went ahead in the top of the ninth, 2-1, thanks to a pair of hits.
Matt Garcia led off with a double. Four batters later, a
Jamie Powell two-out RBI double scored Garcia.
• The Warriors secured the walkoff win thanks to two hits and an EOU error. A bunt single and throwing error scored the first run to tie the game.
• EOU looked to its pen to hold off Corban and potentially force extra innings. Luck went to the Warriors as three straight walks, one intentional, scored the run to give them the 3-2 win.

• Mason Shaw had a game-high eight strikeouts in the start.

Game 2 – Eastern Oregon 11, Corban 3
How it Happened
• EOU secured the game two win thanks to 11 hits and a clean defensive performance. They also had help with three Corban errors.
• Eastern had a strong three innings scoring four in the sixth, three in the seventh, and two in the eighth to blow open the score.
• The Mounties grabbed the lead for the first time yet again in the opening frame. A balk by the Warriors allowed
Austin Gerding to score.
• Corban got the run back in the bottom of the third. The team loaded the bases before an RBI groundout scored the run to tie the game at 1-1.
• The score remained tied until the fourth as EOU jumped back in front by one.
Hector Carreon scored
McKlane Elgin with an RBI groundout to put the Mounties up 2-1.
• The Mounties four-run sixth frame came on just one. A bases-loaded walk scored the first run in
Adrian Roa. The remaining three runs came on a pair of groundouts and a base hit.
• Carreon and
Dane Kelsey accounted for the RBI groundouts, while
Matt Garcia had the lone RBI single. The Warriors gave up three walks in the frame as EOU led 6-1.
• The second run for Corban came in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly to make it a 6-2 game. Eastern then tacked on three runs to go ahead 9-2.
• A hit by pitch scored the first run of the seventh. A fielder's choice from Carreon scored the second run before a wild pitch allowed Elgin to come in for the third run.
• In the eighth, two hits and two Corban errors pushed the Mounties lead to 11-2.
Garret Kollar came in thanks to back-to-back errors to score. Elgin then doubled to left center, scoring Roa.
• The final Warriors run came in the bottom of the ninth. They hit a solo home run to to left, but never mustered another hit the rest of the frame to fall 11-3.
