Mountaineers Fall to No. 22 Warriors, 71-67, on the Road

LEWISTON, Idaho – Mountaineer Women's Basketball dropped a close contest Saturday afternoon, falling 71-67 to No. 22 Lewis-Clark State College on the road. The loss drops Eastern Oregon's record to 17-9 overall and 14-4 in CCC play. EOU's loss also drops the team from first to third in the CCC standings.

How it Happened
• Helping the Warriors (20-3, 14-3 CCC) in the win was not only a 44.3 field goal percentage, but a 20-8 edge in points in the paint. EOU was held to 37.5% from the field in the loss.
• Keeping the Mountaineers in the contest was their three-point shooting. They went 14-37 from deep for 37.8% and held LC State to 8-25 for 32%.
• Every quarter of the contest saw both teams score double figure points. EOU managed to outscore LC State in the first two quarters of action, but a 40-26 second half scoring surge by the Warriors lifted them to victory.
•  The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair with neither team leading by more than five points. The game was tied 18-all late in the frame, but a Sailor Liefke three gave EOU a 21-18 edge going into the second.
• In the second quarter, LC State managed to stay within single digits before a late surge by the Mounties made it a double-digit game. A Liefke triple made it a 10-point game and EOU ultimately went into the break leading 41-31.
• After being outscored in the first two quarters, the Warriors answered in the third quarter putting up 18 points and held EOU to just 12. The Warriors's effort cut EOU's lead to four, 53-49, going into the fourth.
• Eastern led by as much as 11 points a pair of times in the third, but a late surge by LC State kept the score within two possessions. The Warriors managed to get within one point, 47-46, to keep things interesting going into the fourth.
• LC State retook the lead early in the final quarter going up 55-53 and never allowed EOU to get back in front. Eastern tied the game a pair of times but never managed to go ahead the rest of the night.
• EOU tied the game at 64-64 in the final three minutes, but the Warriors responded quickly. Liefke nailed a triple at the 1:14 mark to make it 68-67, but the Mounties never scored again as they fell by four.
