COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Eastern Oregon Men's basketball suffered a tough setback Friday afternoon, dropping a 85-74 road loss to Walla Walla University. The loss puts the Mountaineers' record at 14-11 overall and 8-9 in CCC play.
How it Happened
• The Wolves (3-20, 2-14 CCC) secured the win thanks to 57.9 field goal percentage and was 7-14 from deep for 50%. They also outrebounded the Mounties 41-38.
• Giving WWU a boost in the win was its bench play. WWU's reserves scored 25 points, while EOU's bench managed just 15. Points in the paint also favored the Wolves at 36-12.
• 44 points from the Wolves offense, while their defense held Eastern to 29 gave them a 15-point edge at the break. WWU shot a staggering 58.6% from the floor, while EOU was just 32.4% from the field.
• WWU jumped ahead 6-0 to start before EOU tied it at 6-6 with a pair of triples from
Preston Chandler and
Cooper Lumsden, respectively. That was the only time EOU tied the game the rest of the first half.
• The Wolves pieced together an 8-0 run to lead 14-6 with 13:04 left in the half. EOU battled back and managed to get within four a pair of times. They trailed 20-16 at the 11-minute mark.
• A Lumsden three-pointer with 10:08 left on the clock cut the mountaineers' deficit to just one, 20-19. WWU then went on a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to lead 34-21 late in the half.
• The surge by the Wolves helped them maintain a double-digit lead in the final 4:27. The Mounties managed just eight more points, while WWU added 10 to lead 44-29 at the break.
• The second half saw the Mountaineers score 45 points, but the Wolves added 41 as they held a double figure lead for the majority of the half.
• The Mountaineers got within single digits, nine, on a Chandler triple in the first three minutes to make it a 44-35 game. He later nailed another three to keep the deficit at nine, 47-38, but the Wolves never let any come of it.
• The closest Eastern got was eight points, 51-43, with 14;23 to play in regulation. Lumsden nailed a triple to make it a three possession game.
• The last single-digit deficit was at the 13:09 mark as Lumsden nailed another three to make it a 55-46 game. From that point on, it was all Wolves.
• WWU led by as much as 19 a pair of times in the second half. They maintained a double-digit lead in the final 13 minutes and cruised to the 85-74 win at home.

Cooper Lumsden scored 30 points to lead all scorers. He shot 11-19 overall and 8-14 from deep.

Phillip Malatare added 13 points off the bench and dished out five assists.

Zane Wright chipped in 20 points in the loss going 4-8 from the field and 3-7 from deep.

Justin Jeske led the way in rebounding with nine boards.
For the Wolves
• KiAndre Gaddy posted a double-double with 21 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
• Zayne Browning scored 16 points and grabbed seven boards.
• Andrew Vaughn also had 16 points in the win on 6-8 shooting.
• Ethan Ford also posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
