Warriors Hand Mountaineers 65-55 Defeat in Lewiston

LEWISTON, Idaho – Eastern Oregon Men's Basketball dropped its second straight contest on Saturday evening, falling 65-55 to Lewis-Clark State College on the road. The loss puts the Mountaineers at 14-12 overall and 8-10 in CCC play.

How it Happened
• A 46.0 field goal percentage by LC State (16-9, 9-8 CCC) helped lift the home team to the win. Defensively, the Warriors held EOU to just 33.9% from the floor. 
• Keeping the Mountaineers in the game was their bench play. Their reserves outscored the Warriors bench 24-12 in the contest.
• Also helping LC State control the tempo of the game was rebounding. The Warriors had a 44-31 edge in rebounding to help control the pace of the game.
• EOU led 2-0 to start the game, but the Warriors answered quickly and surged ahead 9-2 in the first five minutes of play. They never relinquished their lead the rest of the game.
• EOU managed to get within four points, 11-7, with 13 minutes to play but never got any closer the rest of the half. LC State led by as much as 13 and took a double figure lead into halftime.
• In the first half, the Warriors held EOU to just 27.6% from the floor and shot 36.7% on the flip side. The combination helped the Warriors lead 31-21 going into the second half.
• In the second half, both teams scored 34 points, but the Warriors' first half pressure proved to be too much to overcome. 
• Through the first 10 minutes of the second half, EOU made things interesting. Eastern got within three, 41-38, in that span but rallies by LC State kept the Mounties from taking the lead.
• The Warriors surged ahead 53-38 after the Mountaineers got within three. Eastern cut their deficit to single digits a handful of times but never managed to get any closer than three possessions the rest of the night as they succumbed to the 10-point loss.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
Xavier Lovelace scored 16 points and had a game-high seven rebounds.
Cooper Lumsden scored 13 points off the bench.
Kendall Williams chipped in nine points in the loss.

For the Warriors
• Khalil Stevenson led all scorers with 17 points and had six assists to go along with five boards.
• Brennen Newson added 15 points and grabbed a game best seven boards.
• Al Sommerfield chipped in 12 points in the win and pulled down six rebounds.

By the Numbers
6 - EOU took just six free throws over the weekend.
3 - The Mountaineers have now dropped their last three games played on the road.
3 - Eastern had just three blocked shots all weekend, all coming in the LC State game.

• EOU is back in Quinn Coliseum next weekend for its final two home games of the regular season. The Mountaineers host Evergreen State Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. followed by Northwest on Feb. 12 at 5 p.m.
