17th-Ranked Mountaineers Rout Warriors, 34-9, on the Road

SALEM, Ore. – In what was the first ever dual match-up between Eastern Oregon and Corban in women's wrestling, the 17th-ranked Mountaineers routed the Warriors, 34-9, Thursday night on the road. With the victory, No. 17 EOU concludes the regular season with a 5-5 overall dual record and a 1-2 mark against CCC opponents.

Helping the Mountaineers to victory was securing seven individual wins in nine of the bouts. Of seven wins, four were forfeits for Eastern to help handle the shorthanded Warriors (1-3, 1-3 CCC).

The night started with Nayeli Flores Roque pinning Brooke Burrows in 1:38 at 101 pounds. The start gave EOU a 5-0 lead and they never relinquished it. Stephanie Blankenship had the first forfeit win, picking up the easy five points at 109 pounds.

The Warriors ended their scoring drought at 116 pounds as Kendall Martin pinned Irma Retano in 30 seconds. The pin cut Corban's deficit to five points, 10-5. Macy Higa answered for EOU scoring a 10-0 tech fall over Tess Barnett at 123 pounds. Her shutout pushed the Mounties' lead to nine, 14-5.

Kaylee Moore gave EOU a double-digit lead yet again at 130 pounds with a 14-4 tech fall over Jaden South. Moore's victory put EOU's lead at 12, 18-6. The Warriors then forfeited at 136 pounds and 143 pounds. Scoring the wins were Morgan Shines and Krystal Fabricante, respectively.

With the score at 28-6, just two bouts were left as both squads forfeited the 190-pound bout. Dempsi Talkington battled Alexys Zepeda at 155 pounds but came up short, dropping a 3-1 decision.

The win at 155 pounds for Corban brought its team point total to nine. Olivia Robinson scored the final win of the evening with a forfeit victory at 170 pounds as EOU cruised to the 25-point road win.

The Mountaineers will now turn their focus to the postseason as they get ready for the 2022 CCC Championships. This year's conference championships will take place Feb. 27 and will be hosted by University of Providence.
