LA GRANDE, Ore. – EOU Women's Basketball kept their hot streak going Friday night easily handling the Yotes from the College of Idaho. The Mounties dominated the Yotes from the start allowing only three points in the first quarter. Eastern picked up their fourth win in a row winning 78-37 to move to 6-1 on the year and 3-0 in conference. With the loss the Yotes fall to 5-4 and 0-3 in conference.
The first quarter was all Mounties as they jumped out to a 18-3 lead thanks to some strong defense and sharp shooting. The Mountaineers held the Yotes to 1-13 shooting with their only points coming off a Sierra Riggle jumper followed by a free throw a couple minutes later to make it 7-3. From there the Mounties hit the throttle going on an 11-0 run to end the quarter capped off by an
Adyson Harris-Shaw three pointer.
The next quarter was the highest scoring period of the day as the two teams accounted for a combined 43 points. Eastern outscored College of Idaho again, this time 27-16 as the Yotes found their footing. A buzzer-beating three by College of Idaho's Taryn Riley made it a 26-point game at the half, 45-19.
Eastern kept their foot on the gas through the second half as well outscoring the Yotes 19-10 in the third and 14-8 in the fourth. The Mounties continued to utilize their physical advantage outrebounding the Yotes 33-11 in the second half on their way to the 78-37 win.
EOU will hit the road for a non-conference matchup on Saturday. The Mounties will take on Whitman College on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Walla Walla, Wash.
