LA GRANDE, Ore.- The Mounties were back in action at home Saturday afternoon as they took on the Eagles of Northwest University. It was a physical match between two teams fighting for a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament. The Mounties ended up taking the match 2-0 over the Eagles.
Physicality was the theme of the match as 10 yellow cards were distributed in the evening. The physicality was to be expected from two teams that were fighting for a spot in the CCC tournament. It was back and forth throughout as both teams were not willing to give an inch. It was the Mountaineers that were able to break the 0-0 tie as Carlos Murillo was able to break away, finding the back of the Eagle net giving the Mounties a 1-0 lead. This ultimately was the game winning goal of the match as the Mounties were able to hold the Eagles scoreless. EOU was able to tack on a second goal in the 56th minute when Emilio Leal was able to score an unassisted goal, extending the Mounties lead to 2-0. The Eagles, despite being held scoreless, won the shot battle, totaling 14 shots in the match.
This match marks the end of CCC play and the Mounties will await to see who they will take on in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament on Nov. 7 in Springfield, Ore.
