Mountaineer Women Get Back on Track with 73-61 Win Over Warriors

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Mountaineer Women's Basketball bounced back with a solid win Saturday night, taking down Corban University 73-61 inside Quinn Coliseum. The win moves Eastern Oregon's overall record to 16-8 and 13-3 in conference play. The Mounties are also now 8-1 at home this year.

How it Happened
• Helping the Mountaineers in the win was their bench scoring. They put up 29 points and held the Corban reserves to 27.
• Also helping Eastern in the win was their three-point shooting. They went 10-30 for 33.3% and held the Warriors (4-19, 3-13 CCC) to just 3-14 for 21.4%.
• The first quarter was key for the Mounties in the win as they held the Warriors to just nine points in the 10-minute span and scored 16 to lead by seven after one.
• The Warriors battled through the first six minutes of play scoring their nine points and held EOU just 10 to stay within one. The Mountaineers then racked up six straight points to lead 16-9.
• In the second quarter, the two squads put up a combined 37 points in what was a back-and-forth scoring affair. The Mounties had the edge at 19-18 to lead 35-27 at the break.
• Eastern scored the first six points of the second frame and extended what was a 6-0 run to end the first and made it a 12-0 run into the second to lead 22-9.
• The Mountaineers' run ultimately gave them a double-digit lead and they held that for much of teh second quarter. The Warriors cut their deficit to seven, 30-23, in the final two minutes but never got any closer.
• Tempo carried over from the second quarter into the third as EOU scored 18 points, while Corban added 14. The Mounties' strong pace helped them take a 53-41 lead into the fourth.
• In the first two minutes of action, the Warriors managed to get within four, 35-31, but the comeback effort was short lived. EOU then went on an 8-2 run to lead by 10, 43-33, with just under five minutes to play.
• The Warriors never got any closer than eight points the rest of the third quarter as the Mounties controlled the tempo the rest of the frame. EOU led by as much as 13 in the quarter before going into fourth with a 53-41 lead.
• Both teams put up 20 points in the fourth quarter, but in the end the Mountaineers quick start was too much for the Warriors to overcome. Eastern led by as much as 19 in the final 10 minutes of action before walking away with the 12-point home win.
