No. 13 Mountaineers Take Down Warriors 3-1 at Home

LA GRANDE, Ore. - 13th-ranked Eastern Oregon Women's Soccer posted another shutout Saturday night as the Mountaineers defeated Corban University 3-1 at home. With the win, EOU improves to 7-1-0 overall and is now 4-0-0 in conference play.

How it Happened
• Both teams were evenly matched finishing with 10 shots apiece, but it was Corban (5-2-0, 1-2-0 CCC) who had the slight advantage in shots on goal at 8-7. Both teams were physical in their play finishing with a combined 28 fouls led by the Warriors with 16 to EOU's 12.
• Eastern scored its first goal in the 26th minute when Morgan Farrington nailed a header shot from three yards out. She found the back of the net on a well placed corner kick from Erika Skindlov who earned the assist.
• The score stayed at 1-0 going into the halftime break as EOU out-shot Corban 5-1 in the 45 minutes with a 2-1 advantage in shots on goal.
• The Mountaineers tacked on their second goal in the 53rd minute of the second period on a far kick from Darby McDevitt. She hit a free kick opportunity from roughly 45 yards out and a bounce in the penalty area slipped by the goalkeeper for the score to make it 2-0.
• The Warriors quickly responded one minute later as Juliana Pires nailed a shot from the right side 25 yards out to cut their deficit to one, 2-1, to end EOU's shutout streak at six games.
• Eastern answered as well though five minutes later with another goal from McDevitt in the 59th minute. She hit another free kick on the right side, this time from 29 yards out, to put EOU back up by two, 3-1.
• The score finished at its final of 3-1 as the Mountaineers held on to remain undefeated in conference play. Corban had a chance at a goal late, but the ball deflected off the post in the 89 minute. For the second period, The Warriors out-shot the Mountaineers 9-5

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• Darby McDevitt led all players with two goals scored and posted two shots in the win.
• Morgan Farrington scored the only other goal, which was the gamewinner. She led all players with five shots total and had three on goal.
• Erika Skindlov tallied an assist in the win on the Farrington goal.
• In net, Madeline Barker racked up seven saves to remain undefeated at 7-0-0.

For the Warriors
• Juliana Pires led Corban's offense with a goal scored and had a team high four shots with three coming on goal.
• Maria Frances-Serrant tallied two shots in the loss with both coming on goal.
• Goalkeeper Makida Herbert tallied four saves in the loss.

By the Numbers
28 - Morgan Farrington has now scored 28 career goals. She is just one goal away from tying the all-time lead set by Kristen Rice (2003-06).
6 - EOU's shutout streak to start the 2021 season ends at six. It is the team's longest shutout streak under the direction of Jacob Plocher.
12 - The Mounties have now won 12 consecutive games at home, dating back to the 2019 season.
2 - Darby McDevitt's two goals on Saturday are the first of her career.
