Mountaineers Volleyball Racks Up Multiple AVCA All-Region Awards

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association has announced its NAIA Regional award winners for the 2021 season. Eastern Oregon University is well represented with four All-Region selections, Region Defender of the Year, and Coach of the Year.
 
Kaki McLean Morehead was named the AVCA Northwest Region Co-Coach of the Year after leading the Mountaineers to an undefeated regular season and their sixth conference title along with the No. 8 ranking in the NAIA entering postseason play. Cambree Scott, Madison Pilon, Breanna Shaffer, and Kiley McMurtrey were all named to the Northwest All-Region team, and Kiley McMurtrey earned Northwest Region Defender of the Year as well.
 
In her 14th season of leading Eastern Oregon, Coach Morehead had a memorable year this spring season. She led EOU to its first undefeated regular season in program history en route to a sixth CCC Title in seven years. Along the way, Coach Morehead also reached a milestone as she picked up career win No. 300 back on March 5 when EOU swept Warner Pacific. She currently holds a career record of 312-109 (.741).
 
Scott receives this honor after being named CCC Player of the Year and earning her second straight First Team All-Conference selection earlier this season. The junior currently leads the team in blocks with 89 and her 1.29 blocks per set is 7th highest in the NAIA. She has a hitting percentage of .298 which is 44th in the NAIA. She has 171 kills on the season and is averaging 2.48 per set.
 
McMurtrey receives Northwest Region Defender of the Year after being selected as the Cascade Collegiate Conference Libero of the Year for the third consecutive season. She currently has 359 digs overall and is averaging 5.13 per set. Her set average is 41st in the NAIA as well. McMurtrey became the program leader earlier this season in career digs and service aces. She has 2,124 digs so far and 132 service aces.
 
Pilon brings home this award after being named Cascade Collegiate Conference Setter of the Year earlier this season. She has been the floor general for Eastern all season long as she has dished out 574 total assists. She has a career total of 3,121 assists which is second most in program history. She has helped guide the offense to average 12.47 assists per set which ranks 13th overall in the NAIA.
 
For Shaffer, she receives this honor after being named First-Team All Cascade Collegiate Conference earlier this season. The junior has led the way on offense for the Mountaineers this season averaging 2.78 kills per set and has totaled 161 so far this year. She is hitting .259 and has a total of 32 blocks on the season.
