CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Monday afternoon its Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Players of the Week awards and eighth-ranked Eastern Oregon University Volleyball took home all three weekly awards for its sport.
Picking up the honors for EOU were
Sade Williams for offense,
Kiley McMurtrey for defense, and
Madison Pilon for setter. All three players were key in EOU securing two five-set wins over No. 13 Corban University as the Mountaineers won their sixth-straight CCC regular season crown.
Offensively, Williams had a consistent weekend for Eastern as she posted a pair of double-double performances in EOU's 2-0 weekend against No. 13 Corban. On Friday she tallied 11 kills and had 10 digs to make her presence know on both sides of the ball. She also helped on the front row with two block assists. On Saturday, she posted a career-high in kills and digs. She finished 17 kills and had 21 digs in the five-set comeback win for EOU. For Williams, this is her first career Player of the Week honor.
McMurtrey was all over the court during the weekend as she had 20-plus digs in both of the Mountaineers wins. She posted 22 on Friday and managed to dish out a pair of assists. On Saturday, McMurtrey continued her strong play in the back row totaling 29 digs. She added two more assists as well in the come-from-behind victory.
Pilon was the facilitator on offense once again for the Mountaineers in their regular season series sweep of No. 13 Corban. She dished out 81 assists for the weekend, including a season-high of 52 on Saturday in the comeback win. On Friday she handed out 31 assists and tallied 15 digs for a double-double. She had a double-double again with 16 digs to go along with her 52 assists on Saturday.
Eastern Oregon wraps up regular season play this weekend with two home games against Lewis-Clark State College on April 2 and 3. First serve is set for 7 p.m. PT on Friday and 5 p.m. Pt on Saturday.
